Computers in Education

Education and work often seem at odds and no better example can be found than the use of computers in the classroom.  While some evidence exists that educational use of computers is changing, the traditional uses are very much still in evidence.  Comparing the use of computers in education and in the workplace can be very revealing.

Used predominately for drill and practice, tutorials, computer games

Used as tool to problem solve

Used to reinforce learning (drill)

Applications used to manipulate data (spreadsheets, databases, Internet, graphics, word processing)

Used to teach new information (tutorial)

Used to track data, resources

Used to drill through games or simulations

Used to manage financial models and make predictions

Used to deliver instruction to students (teacher presentations)

Used to design, invent, create

 

Used to collaborate with colleagues all over the world
